Warndt-Saargau motorcycle tour: 115 km
History, industry and pure nature – the Warndt-Saargau Tour takes you on a challenging route from Saarlouis with its old town and the remains of the historic fortifications through idyllic landscapes in Saargau and Warndt towards the Völklingen Ironworks World Heritage Site.
The starting point is in Wallerfangen, from where you ride along narrow winding roads towards St. Barbara. Passing fields and orchards – you should take into account the peculiarities of agricultural vehicles on the entire tour – the route takes you along winding sections towards Siersburg.
The ruins of Siersburg Castle are worth a first stop. From there, you have a special panoramic view over large parts of the Saargau.
The route heads towards Eimersdorf along narrow roads with lots of bends. After a downhill section, the route crosses the Nied towards Waldwisse/Gerlfangen. The route continues uphill and then downhill again until you reach Leidingen, which is divided by the border with France.
In the direction of Berus, you pass another worthwhile stopover: the former Europe 1 transmitter, which again offers a special view over large parts of Saarlouis. From Berus, a downhill section leads towards Altforweiler. From there, the route continues to Überherrn – Bisten – Differten. The route leads past fields and meadows before entering the Warndt forest and passing the Warndt pond. From here it becomes narrower and the route now climbs in rhythmic sweeps.
The route descends via serpentines to Karlsbrunn. From there, the route leads to the village of St. Nikolaus. The nearby mill pond invites you to take a break. The route continues to Großrosseln/Völklingen. Passing fields and trees, you reach Emmersweiler via a country road. Now you cycle back along the German-French border to Großrosseln, followed by Ludweiler and Werbeln.

Saar, Mosel & Hunsrück: 160 km
The feedback from many bikers and press reports make this route one of the most perfect in Germany.
The challenging tour through the region of the border triangle on the border with France, Luxembourg and Rhineland-Palatinate offers you many sections that are suitable for extremely sloping terrain. The attentive rider will also find many sights worth seeing, such as the Saar loop or the vineyards in the region around Perl. A good starting point is the town hall in Merzig, from where you are led through many small villages to Perl-Borg. You now have the opportunity to make a detour at the “Villa Borg”.
The route continues along a wide country road from which you can see as far as the cooling towers of the Cattenom nuclear power plant. The route leads past vineyards to Perl and on to Sinz. In fine weather, the Moselle promenade in Remich is packed with motorcyclists. The actual route turns off to the right in Sinz, followed by an uphill section that conquers the mountain in two lanes and allows spectacular banked turns.
Once at the top, continue to Saarbrurg/Münzingen. In Orscholz, you should definitely visit the “Cloef”. Here you have a magnificent view over the Saar loop. Now a descent awaits you that is again suitable for extreme slopes.
From Mettlach, you pass through many small villages until you reach the northernmost point of the tour in Nonnweiler. This section takes you straight past the Losheim reservoir. Here, too, it is worth stopping to dip your feet in the cool water at the lido.
If your stomach is rumbling now, a visit to the Reimsbacher Hof is definitely worthwhile. Steaks, schnitzels and burgers in XXL format await you here. The tour now leads via Düppenweiler to Honzrath, in the direction of Merzig/Merchingen. The last overland section then takes you back to your starting point, the Merzig Stadthalle.
