Dream Loop Litermont Summit Tour

An eventful mixture of nature adventure and enjoyment of nature: wildly romantic stream landscapes, rugged gorges, moonstones, willow dome, summit ascents, frog paradise, devil’s gorge, Maldix poacher’s trail, distant views. A hiking trail of superlatives, with steep, rope-secured passages on the ascent to the Litermont. A path with an intense density of experiences.

The Litermont Summit Tour is located in Nalbach, on the border between the districts of Merzig-Wadern and Saarlouis, on the south side of the 414 m high Litermont, the mountain shrouded in legend by Knight Maldix.

A more than varied hiking trail awaits you, through a frog paradise, many spring and stream areas, wildly romantic paths. Diverse forest formations and always great views, as well as steep passages on the rocks of the Litermont massif, which are secured with thick ropes.

At the summit you can expect magnificent views over the Saar Valley to France, as well as an optical telegraph station and – unique in southwestern Germany – a willow dome where weddings take place.

The trail was rated 94 points by the German Hiking Institute.

Dream Loop Mühlenbach Gorge Tour

A good mix of short and long forest passages alternating with small and larger meadow passages. The highlight of the hike is the route through the gorge of the Mühlenbach via stairs, footbridges and bridges.

Just a stone’s throw away from the car park at the refuge of the Saarwald Association is the entrance portal of the Mühlenbach Gorge Tour. After a short forest passage, a narrow meadow path follows. Shady forest passages alternating with forest and meadow fringes follow alternately through the gently hilly landscape.

A meadow path leads to the accessible gorge of the Mühlenbach. Here you can see the elemental force with which the Mühlenbach has dug itself into the sandstone. From several viewing pulpits you can follow the windings of the Mühlenbach. Only the murmur of the stream can be heard. Dippers offer an entertaining spectacle during their flight through the gorge.

After crossing the Vorderer Weierkopf forest, the Marienkapelle stands on the Rotwäldchen above Saarwellingen. It was built in 1950 by men from Saarwelling, who set an example for a happy return from the Second World War with the construction of the chapel. From the benches in front of the chapel a wide view of the country, in front of us the first houses of Saarwellingen, behind it rises the Litermont, on the left hand side the slag heap of Ensdorf and behind it the ridges rising from the Saar valley into the Saargau with the transmission masts of Europa 1.

The trail has been rated with 63 experience points by the German Hiking Institute.

Dream Loop The Gisinger

Old Lorraine farmhouses, the ascent to the Gallenberg as well as distant views of the border triangle and the Schaumberg await the hikers. The hiking experience is rounded off by orchards, shady forest passages and exciting geological highlights. The highlight of the tour: the “Haus Saargau”. This is where history comes alive.

Right at the beginning, the path leads across lush meadows to a real gem, the fish pond “In der Kasseck”, which invites you to take a short break. Afterwards it goes up to the summit of the Gallenberg with its magnificent panoramas, on one side as far as France and Luxembourg, on the other side as far as the Saar Valley. Here you can also see the landmark of the region in the distance: the “Saarpolygon” in Ensdorf.

At the model airfield in Rammelfang, hikers can expect a culinary highlight during the hiking season from April to October: the “Bringwäänchen”. This tasting service with regional products is offered to hikers by the “Preservation and Renewal” Gisingen association on Sundays and public holidays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for refreshment and refreshment.

Well fortified, you finally hike through extensive meadows and can let your gaze wander over the lush orchards of the “Husterheck”. Over layers of the Middle Muschelkalk, the path leads further down into the idyllic Gisinger Forest, which creates a very special atmosphere with badger holes, enchanted bones (small notched valleys) and geological features. Here you will find, for example, the limestone tufa staircase of the Leitersteiner Bach, the spring at the Leitersteiner Born, which served the villagers as a cattle trough and washing fountain at that time, or the “Grotto” with a figure of the Virgin Mary.

Following the watercourse of the Itzbach, you hike for a while through forest and meadow landscapes that invite you to dream, before you reach the Hasenberg after a short ascent. Along the golf course, the path winds along narrow paths towards the village of Oberlimberg.

After crossing a wildly romantic forest, you pass dreamlike orchards with a view over the open Saargau landscape to the Saar Valley and finally return to the starting point of the hike in the centre of Gisingen.
There, with a cool drink or a good meal in the local gastronomy, you can philosophize about the experiences.

Finally, a visit to Haus Saargau is worthwhile. The faithfully restored farmhouse from the 18th century, in addition to old Lorraine furniture, also houses furnishings and everyday objects from the 19. and 20th century. The 1000 m² cottage garden offers all kinds of herbs, aromatic and aromatic plants.
